New Leaf Compost improving wellbeing - Kieron's story

Kieron Connaghan, Ballinderry, Co. Antrim

“Like everyone else, I found myself stuck at home during lockdown. My mum decided to stay at home before the announcement was made, as she thought I might be more at risk. I was upset because I couldn’t see my mates or go to my bowling club, or my cookery class at SERC. I love making things from wood, and I’ve made vegetable beds for Sharon at Kinder Garden Cooks for schools before.

“I got some wood delivered and I’ve been making beds so people can plant vegetables and to keep busy while they have to stay in. I even made one for my mum to put in our polytunnel and filled it with the New Leaf Compost that Sharon gave us.

“She also gave us some seeds, like beetroot and tomatoes, and she gave us seed potatoes as well. We have them planted in the garden and are looking forward to eating them when they are ready. I am hoping to give away a bag of compost to my customers when they buy a bed from me.

“I am really pleased with the compost, it’s great as it is good quality and organic. I run my own project from home called Kieron’s woodworking, sanding and varnishing services. Keeping busy at this and growing has really helped me during this time.”
